• xiaomi mi 5s plus dimensions. Review of the Xiaomi Mi5s Plus smartphone: an exemplary student

    For Xiaomi, this is an unusual year. Firstly, the continuous movement of the company up in the rankings of smartphone manufacturers has ended, a stage of a kind of stagnation has begun. At the same time, the company, which started as the creator of the next shell for Android, has already received the status of something more serious in the mass consciousness than the next Chinese telephone maker: drones, and virtual reality glasses, and much more came to the rescue. In addition, Xiaomi hit experiments with frameless smartphones (Mi MIX) and models with curved screens (Mi Note 2) - we will definitely talk about them again, but another time.

    Secondly, from the company, its vice president, Hugo Barra, under which, in fact, they started talking about Xiaomi as an international player in the smartphone market and not only smartphones.

    Thirdly, despite all this, the company released two flagships at once in a year, although usually it didn’t always have time to release even one. Following the spring, presented for the first time at MWC 2016, Mi5s arrived in time in the fall in two versions - with a smaller and larger screen. The second of them, in addition, equipped with a trendy dual camera, will be discussed in this review.

    Mi5s Plus is exactly what you expect from Xiaomi: Qualcomm Snapdragon 821, 4 or 6 GB of RAM with 64 or 128 GB of ROM, the already mentioned dual camera (as on Huawei P9 - two sensors of 13 megapixels, RGB and monochrome), Fingerprint's scanner; there is even an IR sensor and an NFC module, which are not always found in Xiaomi devices. Is that a 5.7-inch display has "only" Full HD-resolution. And all this - for 23-26 thousand rubles, depending on the amount of memory. But, of course, from "gray" suppliers, and not in the official Xiaomi store.

    Design, ergonomics and software

    Xiaomi in 2016 had enough surprises in the field of smartphone appearance: the company, which has long been laughed at because of its habit of almost blindly copying Apple's design, has released several very original devices - I have already mentioned them above (Mi MIX and Mi Note 2, although the latter very much reminiscent of the creations of Samsung). Mi5s Plus, like its predecessor, Mi5, does not shine with any originality. This, if you will, a smartphone, indistinguishable from dozens of other similar ones. Only the dual camera module catches the eye - and then only because we have not yet had time to get used to this. By the end of the year, two cameras will appear on some budget models - there is no doubt about it.

    An ordinary neat smartphone - most of the front panel area is occupied by the display, the frames are minimal. But things could not do without a mourning border around it - in pursuit of a visual increase in this surface, many people now resort to such a simple and, in my opinion, unsuccessful trick. But they did not transfer the navigation keys to the screen - they are located on them, and are equipped with a backlight - this does not always happen.

    The case, as befits a flagship without pretensions to originality, is metal. There are four color options: gold, silver, rose gold and a special, dark gray version with a black front panel.

    The smartphone comes with a simple case made of transparent plastic, which was covered with scratches in two weeks. On the one hand, a clear demonstration of what the device has to withstand in quite ordinary use cases, even without walking in the same pocket with the keys. On the other hand, it is better to change the case, for example, to a silicone one. But the protective glass of the front panel (the manufacturer of which is not specified this time) did not receive any visible damage during this period.

    But dust and moisture protection, which are becoming key elements of the image of flagship smartphones, Xiaomi Mi5s Plus does not have.

    Xiaomi Mi5s Plus, top: mini-jack (3.5 mm) for headphones / headset and infrared port

    Dimensions: 154.6 × 77.7 × 7.95 mm. Quite standard dimensions for a device with a 5.7-inch display, Xiaomi does not offer anything special in terms of ease of control. This is an exclusively "two-handed" device. For people accustomed to large diagonals, there will be no surprises. Mi5s Plus weighs, despite the metal finish, only 168 grams - here the advantage over competitors is quite noticeable, this is one of the lightest smartphones of this format.

    Xiaomi has not yet begun to rush headlong into the maelstrom of high "apple" fashion and deprive its devices of a minijack - well, it's nice, it's still easier to live with an "extra" connector than without it.

    The fingerprint scanner is located on the rear panel, under the camera - and it's a fairly standard capacitive sensor that is sensitive to the slightest damage to the finger. Fingerprints can be used to unlock your smartphone, select apps, kids mode, and confirm payments.

    "Photosklad.ru"

    Today we have in our review two new smartphones from Xiaomi, released quite recently, in early autumn: Mi5s and Mi5s Plus. Both smartphones are flagship and are an upgrade of the Mi5 smartphone released at the beginning of the year.

    Recently, Xiaomi releases new smartphones almost every month, for which many criticize it: it is not so easy to understand the variety of devices. Until recently, the flagship line was updated once a year. This year, Xiaomi violated its principle of releasing one or two powerful devices a year and released a rather successful Mi5 and quite good Mi4s in March of this year. Only six months have passed, and Xiaomi has rolled out to the public two new advanced smartphones: Mi5s and Mi5s Plus. Let's try to understand and find out what they are in use and which one is more preferable.

    To begin with, in the table below we present the dry characteristics of both devices, as well as Mi5:

    *Note: ppi is dots per inch
    ** Note: the 3D Touch function (recognition of the pressure on the screen) was received only by older versions of smartphones (4/128 GB for Mi5s and 6/128 GB for Mi5s Plus). It remains unclear why Xiaomi left the 3D Touch function only in older versions of devices. To completely confuse buyers?
    *** Note: The processor in Mi5s runs at a lower frequency than in Mi5s Plus. This situation is probably due to the fact that to emphasize the special status of the latter.

    As you can see, there are few changes in Mi5s compared to Mi5. Xiaomi has supplied a slightly more capacious battery, equipped smartphones with the latest processor from Qualcomm, supplied a more sensitive photosensor (do not look at the number of megapixels), removed the infrared port (it remained in Mi5s Plus). If we compare Mi5s and Mi5s Plus with each other, we can draw a simple conclusion: Xiaomi decided to follow the example of Apple and release two devices at a time - a mid-size phone and a “shovel”. At the same time, the older model is endowed with a number of advantages:

    • more attractive design;
    • at the same resolution, it has a more capacious battery, which means that the smartphone will work longer in everyday use;
    • the processor operates at higher frequencies, that is, the device, theoretically, is more productive in games;
    • it has an Apple-like dual camera;
    • it has more RAM;
    • there is an infrared port.

    It turns out that the older model in terms of characteristics differs from the younger one quite strongly. Whether these advantages are worth the overpayment for it, we will try to find out.

    So, from the lyrics, let's move on to field tests.

    The younger models in the lines came to our test, so, unfortunately, we cannot tell you about the 3D Touch function. But we will try to go over the rest of the points in detail.

    Box and equipment

    Smartphones come in minimalist white boxes.

    The smartphone itself, a paper clip, a USB Type C cable and a charger with an American plug are packed inside. It turns out that you need to look for an adapter. If you don’t have an adapter, it doesn’t matter: any USB charger that gives out enough current to charge your smartphone will do.

    A silicone case was also put in the box with the older model. We can say that the equipment is not rich, there are not even headphones. Xiaomi knows how to make intelligent “droplets”, but in this case, the main goal was to reduce the price of a smartphone to the maximum. On the other hand, headphones are often purchased separately, since almost always, even bundled with premium smartphones, they do not stand up to scrutiny.

    Frame

    The body of smartphones is made of aluminum. If we take into account the previous flagships Mi5 and Mi4, it was expected that Xiaomi would continue to develop towards the same stylish case with a metal frame. If Mi5s Plus turned out to be more or less similar to its predecessor, then Mi5s is more rounded and resembles the mid-budget Redmi Note 4. Mi5s Plus looks, frankly, more expensive.

    This does not change the fact that both Mi5s and Mi5s Plus are very comfortable in the hand and the tactile sensations are quite pleasant.

    The cases are non-staining, there are no fingerprints left.

    operating system

    Both smartphones are equipped with the latest version of MIUI 8.0 based on Android 6.0. Russian language is supported out of the box.

    Screen

    The resolution of smartphones for such a diagonal has already become a standard, there is nothing outstanding here. But if this is more than acceptable for Mi5s, then Mi5s Plus rivals can already boast a higher pixel density. On the one hand, this is an omission, especially in terms of promotion; on the other hand, in our opinion, FullHD resolution for the screen of any smartphone is enough for comfortable use. In addition, such a screen with active use of the device consumes about 30% less energy than its WQHD counterpart, which can be a plus for gamers.

    A drop in the ointment was the black frame around the screen, inherited from the Mi5. It is especially noticeable on light versions of the smartphone. If in Mi5s Plus it is almost invisible, then in Mi5s it is very striking at first. Don't be surprised when you see black Mi5s cost more than other colors.

    Memory

    Each smartphone has two versions. They differ only in the amount of RAM and permanent memory: 3/64 GB and 4/128 GB for Mi5s and 4/64 and 6/128 for Mi5s Plus, respectively. The company decided to abandon the microSD card slot and therefore did not release a 32 GB version. A sound decision, in our opinion.

    CPU

    Both smartphones are equipped with the most productive Qualcomm processors at the moment - Snapdragon 821. In AnTuTu, smartphones showed results at the level of flagships from other companies. I was a little puzzled by the result, which is close to the margin of error, despite the fact that in the usual Mi5s the frequencies are cut compared to the older brother.

    Mi5 gave out about 131,000 parrots. The new flagships turned out 10-15% faster.

    Fingerprint's scanner

    Both models also have a fingerprint scanner. However, if in Mi5s it is located on the front panel at the bottom of the screen and is aligned with the Home button, then in Mi5s Plus it is located on the back panel. It is convenient to use both options: on the older model with the index finger, on the younger one with the thumb. We stumbled upon one glitch: if the smartphone screen is off, when you try to unlock it with your finger, the screen lights up and immediately goes out. If you first unlock the screen with the Power button, and then put your finger on it, then the unlock works as it should. We hope this shortcoming will be fixed in future firmware. By the way, the global version of the firmware is installed on smartphones, the OTA update is available immediately.

    Both smartphones allow you to work with 2 SIM-cards. For Russia, this is perhaps a significant plus.

    The devices also differ in the presence of an infrared port in the older model. Why it was not introduced into Mi5s is a mystery.

    The rest of the devices are identical: both have a standard set of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS/GLONASS/BDS, NFC. In addition, both smartphones are equipped with USB Type C 3.1, so you do not have to try to insert a USB plug into your smartphone 3 times in the dark, and Quick Charge 3.0, which allows you to charge the device, according to the company, as much as 87% in 30 minutes .

    Camera

    Probably one of the most important parameters for top-end devices. The Sony IMX378 sensor, which, by the way, is in the Google Pixel, is installed in the Mi5s, while the Mi5s Plus still has the current sensor of the previous generation IMX258. According to independent tests, the camera on the Google Pixel is currently recognized as the best among smartphones. Bold plus in the Xiaomi piggy bank.

    In the gallery below you can see the quality of the pictures taken on both smartphones and compare them with each other:

    Several shooting modes are available:

    The “Tilt Shift”, “Night Scene” and “Voice Control” modes seemed interesting.

    In “Night” mode, photos in low light conditions become more contrasting:

    Also available are many filters familiar to many on Instagram.

    In Mi5s Plus, two cameras are used when shooting. You can see the difference in the photos below:

    We may not have fully figured out how to properly use the dual camera, but the photos, in our subjective opinion, came out better on Mi5s.

    Photo from the front camera. It is the same for both smartphones:

    Video

    Both smartphones from the regular application can shoot in 4K-, FullHD-, HD- and SD-quality. Slow and fast motion functions are available in HD and SD resolutions.

    Sound

    Smartphones are equipped with a standard 3.5 mm jack, which is commendable. We all know how Xiaomi loves to copy some Apple chips. It's good that this time they didn't follow suit.

    The sound quality in the headphones is beyond praise. The sound of the external speaker is juicy and clear.

    Connection

    The quality of communication during a conversation is not satisfactory. Russian LTE bands (7 and 38) of the main operators (Beeline, MTS, Megafon, Tele2, Iota) are supported by both devices.

    conclusions

    Summing up, we can safely advise both smartphones to lovers of productive gadgets at an affordable price. Both smartphones will not disappoint photography enthusiasts or gamers. This smartphone has everything you will find in the Google Pixel and Pixel XL, Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, Huawei P9 and P9 Plus and similar premium devices from other brands, but they will cost you less, and sometimes much cheaper, than competitors in market.

    The advantages we will include:

    • camera;
    • battery (Mi5s Plus);
    • 2 SIM cards;
    • performance;
    • fast charging;
    • USB 3.1;
    • design (Mi5s Plus);
    • 3D Touch function (in older versions).

    Let's write down the cons:

    • lack of 3D Touch function in younger versions;
    • controversial Mi5s design;
    • black frame around the screen in Mi5s;
    • no euro plug included.

    If we compare smartphones with each other, we note the following advantages of Mi5s:

    • the fingerprint scanner is combined with the Home button;
    • lighter weight;
    • performance at the level of the older model.

    The advantages of Mi5s Plus include:

    • more premium design;
    • more capacious battery;
    • more RAM for the same amount of permanent memory;
    • dual camera;
    • there is an infrared port.

    In total, if you need a top device, you are not embarrassed by the diagonal and you do not like to overpay for the brand, Mi5s Plus is your choice. If you are not used to “shovels”, then we will advise Mi5s. In case you want to save a little, then take Mi5, it is still relevant.

    There are so many dual camera phablets that it's confusing, Huawei, Apple and Honor offer their models. The Xiaomi Mi5S Plus smartphone also has high specifications and a dual lens camera, and is priced on par with OnePlus and ZTE.

    Reviews for Xiaomi Mi5S Plus

    Let's try to learn more about this Chinese fable from this review.

    Xiaomi makes great smartphones, with slim bodies, curved brushed metal backs, and that includes the Xiaomi Mi5S Plus. In design, it most closely resembles the Xiaomi Redmi Pro, and in size it resembles the iPhone 7 Plus. The case thickness is 8 mm.

    Thanks to the curved metal edges, the smartphone seems thinner, it is more comfortable to hold it in your hand. The bottom edge lies directly at the base of the palm.

    One-handed operation is not as easy as in the case of Huawei Mate 9 - you have to strain to get your thumb to every corner of the screen. The Mi5S Plus is lighter than the Mate 9 and weighs about the same as the iPhone 7 Plus.

    The fingerprint scanner is conveniently located on the back, below the dual cameras. In addition to unlocking the system, it will help you lock individual applications and activate child mode.

    Mi5S Plus is not compatible with Android Pay. When trying to install this mobile payment system, a message appears stating that the device is running a native version of Android.

    Build quality is a bit worse than what we're used to seeing on smartphones $400 and up. The back panel flexes slightly when pressed, there is no feeling of solidity of the case. The plastic antenna insert stands out against the general background. The coating is glossy, which is very noticeable when exposed to light.

    Camera Mi5S Plus

    From the dual 13-megapixel rear camera sensors of the Mi5S Plus, we expected better shots with a blurry background, like on the Huawei Mate 9, Redmi Pro or iPhone 7 Plus, but were disappointed.

    The dual camera shots are no worse, but not better than the main camera - they're just different. Enlarging the image, it becomes unclear which of the pictures in which mode was taken.

    When you turn on stereo mode (dual camera shooting), blacks become clearer, but the amount of detail in dark areas drops. Without stereo, the opposite is true. The first option is preferable because one lens only takes black and white shots, like Leica cameras on Huawei smartphones. There is no optical image stabilization, which is strange for a flagship.

    The front camera has a resolution of 4 MP - quite small for a modern smartphone, but f / 2.0 aperture is no less important for image quality. There are plenty of filters to play around with, such as making faces look pixelated or smoother. The camera app is simple and fun to use.

    In general, the impression of the Xiaomi Mi5S Plus cameras is ambiguous: the front one pleases, the dual rear one is not bad, but we hoped for more.

    Software

    All Xiaomi smartphones are based on Android with a heavily modified user interface - MIUI.

    MIUI differs from most interfaces on Android with extensive customization options, a new look and additional features. Xiaomi regularly releases updates to its software, but our Mi5S Plus was running MIUI 8.0 based on the outdated Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

    Applications are located on several home screens, as in the iPhone. The notification shade has changed, now it shows shortcuts in a horizontal list, instead of a separate window. Stylish user interface with redesigned icons looks fantastic. The theme store allows you to change most aspects if the default ones are not to your liking.

    Pre-installed applications include calculator, clock, voice recorder, QR scanner, compass, etc. The weather app is very useful, reporting a lot of details, data comes from AccuWeather. The calendar and gallery are also handy, matching Xiaomi's simple design.

    There are several special Xiaomi features on Mi5S: Second Space - allows you to set up a separate account, for example, for work or a child, and in Dual Apps - you can run two versions of one application.

    Of all the custom user interfaces on Android, MIUI is one of the best.

    Smartphone performance

    Xiaomi Mi5S Plus has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor - not the most advanced, but powerful enough, it performed well on OnePlus 3T and HTC U Ultra.

    Our model had 4 GB of RAM, which is more than enough for most tasks, and you also have a 6 GB version available. The 4 GB model has 64 GB of internal storage, while the 6 GB model has 128 GB. There is no microSD card slot, although the tray can hold two SIM cards.

    The processor is excellent, applications run quickly, there are no problems with games. If you're looking for a smartphone that can handle even the toughest tasks with ease, the Mi5S Plus is your choice.

    In Riptide GP 2 at maximum graphics resolution, the frame rate was sufficient, and no stuttering was observed. In the Danmaku Unlimited shooter with tons of enemies and endless shooting, the game runs great.

    Archiving is fast and hassle-free. But in the AnTuTu benchmark, the Mi5S scored only 118.180 points, which is quite low.

    Battery, Xiaomi Mi5S Plus screen and connections

    The battery capacity is 3.200 mAh - this is enough for 2 days of use under normal load. For charging, use the USB Type-C connector. Thanks to Quick Charge 3.0 technology, Mi5S Plus is fully charged in less than 90 minutes.

    The screen resolution of Xiaomi Mi5S Plus is 1920 × 1080 pixels at a size of 5.7 inches. There are displays on smartphones with a higher resolution, but then the battery runs out quickly.

    It uses an LCD panel rather than AMOLED, but the screen is really bright and crystal clear. There is a reading mode to reduce blue light so as not to irritate the eyes at night, but there is no way to set it to turn on at a certain time. But you can make it so that the mode is turned on when you start the application for reading e-books.

    There are limitations with using 4G LTE - not all bands are supported, and not in all countries. The connection usually doesn't seem too slow, only in specific tests or when streaming high quality video.

    Outcome

    Lightning speed, two days of battery life and a good price pleased me, but the shortcomings upset me.

    There are plenty of other great smartphones available for $400, and the Mi5S Plus faces some serious competition. For example, OnePlus 3T and ZTE Axon 7 LTE cost about the same level, but support more networks.

    If you like Xiaomi products, you might want to consider the Xiaomi Redmi Pro, which is as fast as the Mi5S Plus, but costs $200 less and also has a dual-lens camera.

    Xiaomi Mi5S Plus, like its competitors mentioned above, is not waterproof or especially durable smartphone, the screen is not protected by Gorilla Glass. Although Xiaomi releases regular updates to MIUI, adding new features and fixing bugs, it's not fast enough to keep up with new Android versions and security updates.

    Despite all the advantages, we cannot sincerely recommend Xiaomi Mi5S Plus. The lack of 4G LTE is not critical, but the camera is disappointing. It is especially disappointing that earlier Xiaomi released smartphones with good cameras, and if this time they tried, Mi5S Plus could become a competitor to Mate 9 and iPhone 7 Plus.

    Xiaomi has recently introduced a new smartphone to a wide audience - Xiaomi Mi 5s Plus. The model shows significant progress compared to . So, many expected that the novelty will receive a glass case, but Xiaomi decided to surprise users by “dressing” Mi5s Plus in metal!

    Screen and housing

The manufacturer offers a device with an all-metal body and a minimal frame around the screen, which contributed to an increase in the working area!

    The operating system is Android 6.0. Marshmallow, of course, in a proprietary shell from the company.

    Processor and Memory

    Buy Xiaomi Mi5 s Plus recommends users who operate the gadget at 100%, because a new powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 with a frequency of 2.35 GHz is installed on board. The four-core processor shows excellent results: resource-intensive games and applications are useless to it. In addition, by running several programs at once, you will not feel any discomfort - everything works smoothly and quickly! Also, the processor is characterized by low power consumption!

    Xiaomi Mi5s Plus in Moscow is sold in two versions - one of them has 64 GB and 4 GB of internal and native memory, respectively. The second is equipped with 128 GB of internal memory and 6 GB of RAM, which is quite a lot for a smartphone!

    Cameras and autonomy

    One of the highlights of the gadget is the presence of a dual camera with sensors from Sony. There are dual flash and autofocus. A resolution of 13 megapixels allows you to get high-quality, juicy pictures in any light. As a front module, a 4 megapixel camera is provided. Also, the device is capable of shooting in 4k format.

    Thanks to a capacious 3800 mAh battery, the smartphone is able to work for several days without recharging. Implemented USB Type-C connector, necessary for fast charging and faster data transfer!

    show in full

    On September 27, Xiaomi held another presentation in Beijing, where two new smartphones were presented at once - Xiaomi Mi5s and Xiaomi Mi5s Plus. Usually, the “Plus” prefix denotes an increased display size, but in the case of Mi5s, the situation is slightly different. Mi5 and Mi5s Plus differ not only in screen sizes, but also in memory capacity, cameras, batteries, design, and the location of some elements. In fact, these are two different devices. But first things first.

    First, as usual, the characteristics.

    Specifications of Xiaomi Mi5s

    • Screen: IPS LCD, diagonal 5.15", resolution 1920x1080 pixels, 428 ppi, 2.5D glass
    • Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 octa-core (2x2.15 GHz Kryo + 2x1.6 GHz Kryo)
    • Graphics: Adreno 530 (624 MHz)
    • RAM: 3/4 GB
    • Memory card slot: no
    • Main camera: 12 MP with autofocus and flash, Sony IMX378 sensor, 1.55 µm pixel size, f/2.0, 5 lenses, video is recorded in 4k
    • Battery: 3200 mAh
    • Dimensions: 145.6 x 70.3 x 8.3 mm
    • Weight: 145 grams

    The “S” prefix should stand for improvements over this year’s previous flagship, the Xiaomi Mi5. What has improved?

    2.5D effect glass appeared. In my opinion, this was greatly lacking in the previous model, when everyone already implemented such glasses even in smartphones of the middle and budget segments.

    The screen received support for pressure processing technology, here it is called 3D Touch Display and is in the older version (4/128 GB). It’s a strange decision to add support to the older version and not to add it to the younger one, this confuses the already complex classification of smartphones.

    The Mi5S also has an updated platform - it uses the fresh Snapdragon 821 and the company abandoned the 32 GB version. This is a logical step, because the smartphone does not support memory cards, but the minimum version is immediately 64 GB.

    The camera is also different - a new sensor, the resolution has become lower (12 MP vs. 16) and there is no optical stabilization, but the pixel size has been increased (1.55 microns vs. 1.12 microns in Mi5). As it will be in practice - I do not know. The front camera is unchanged.

    The black false frame around the display is not as obvious as it was in Mi5 - also progress.

    The battery capacity has slightly increased, now it is 3200 mAh versus 3000 mAh in the regular Mi5.

    All in all, the new Xiaomi Mi5s really looks like a good job on some of the bugs of the plain Mi5. Questions raises one point - a fingerprint scanner. Yes, it is now ultrasonic. Yes, it is located under the screen, as many people like. But! If in Mi5 it was a thin mechanical key with a scanner inscribed in it, now it's just a touch key and a scanner. Moreover, in the Mi5S Plus smartphone presented together with Mi5s, the scanner is located on the “back”. That is, now Xiaomi has smartphones with a “front” scanner and a “back” scanner, and, in my opinion, this is strange. I wouldn't say it's bad, just weird. Usually, manufacturers try to bring some kind of standardization into their devices, build a certain logical chain, link different smartphones. In Xiaomi, if we talk about the scanner, they go the opposite way.

    Specifications of Xiaomi Mi5s Plus

    • Weight: 168 grams

    The "backbone" of the characteristics in Xiaomi Mi5S Plus is exactly the same as in Mi5S. The difference is in the diagonal of the screen and size. Also in Mi5S Plus there are two camera modules, one with a color sensor, the other with a monochrome one. As in Huawei smartphones.

    Speaking of design, Xiaomi took an unusual step, and the new Mi5s and Mi5s Plus are made in the same design as the more budgetary Redmi Pro, I'm talking about metal polishing, the shape of the case and the characteristic smooth curves.

    In Mi5S Plus, the fingerprint scanner is located on the back of the case, and only the touch keys are on the front.

    In general, it’s hard for me to say what kind of cool chips this or that smartphone offers. Mi5S turned out to be a logical improvement of the simple Mi5, and Mi5S Plus, respectively, is just a slightly different device. If in the "plus" two cameras work with the same quality as it is implemented in Huawei smartphones (P9, P9 Plus, Honor 8), then the device will be very interesting.

    The cost of the basic version of Xiaomi Mi5s (3/64 GB) will be 2,000 yuan (about 20,000 rubles), Xiaomi Mi5s (4/128 GB) – 2,300 yuan (23,000 rubles).

    The cost of the basic version of Xiaomi Mi5s Plus (4/64 GB) will be 2300 yuan (about 23,000 rubles), Xiaomi Mi5s Plus (6/128 GB) – 2600 yuan (26,000 rubles).

    The official prices, as usual, are as magnificently low as they are unattainable. But given the fact that Xiaomi is not as popular and strong now as it was two or three years ago, when the company's devices were uncontested, we can expect a quick adjustment close to these prices. That is, if a price reduction for a conditional Mi4 a couple of years ago had to wait 2-3 months, then the prices for Mi5s and Mi5S Plus will become close to those declared in a month, I believe. At the same time, of course, there will still not be exactly the prices that hang on the site, but you can expect something in the region of 25,000-26,000 rubles for a simple Mi5s and 30,000 rubles for Mi5 Plus when ordering devices from China.

    It’s hard to say what’s wrong, but when I study new devices from Xiaomi, I literally feel some kind of “wrongness”. It seems that the characteristics are excellent, and everything you need is in place, but something is missing. Perhaps for my feeling there is a simple term "snickering", or maybe I'm still right and the company has lost the spark a little. Everything seems to be in place, but there is no spark, no single style, no common logic for the line of devices, the feeling that now smartphones have become for Xiaomi just another position on a par with TVs, headsets, external batteries and hundreds of other positions on the site.
